Why begin a substack?
This is just a short explanation of why I decided to start this project. I have, in the last one or two years, lived with a rather strong creative urge, one that I, however, have not been able to express for multiple reasons, which I’d rather not mention. The fact that I have not been able to write much aside from my academic work, has caused me a strong and suffocating feeling of unquietness and disappointment on myself. A feeling that I need to confront and overcome. This is, therefore, an attempt to push myself and try to write my thoughts on articles and chronicles on a weekly basis. This is an attempt to find discipline and improve my self-esteem and mental health through something I am passionate about but haven’t been able to explore.
My articles will mostly focus on football, music, literature, cinema, tv shows, art. There will be short-stories and poems as well. And a diary of how my record is going. Definitely not politics. As I am divided between Brazil and Sweden, both countries disappoint me immensely on a political sense right now. Therefore, I feel like the topic does not deserve my attention. Neither do I feel like I have the tools to tackle them. As a disclaimer, I will vote for the Worker’s party in the Brazilian election, and I would have voted for the Social Democrats in Sweden. Neither, however, are sweeping me off of my feet. I just think, and believe those two are the best options in the current context. In any case, those lines are the most I intend to talk about politics in any country and context.
Perhaps not all of my texts will be good, and most likely, not all of them will be interesting to everyone within my audience. However, they are a true and honest expression of things which are dear to me, and hopefully you, the reader, can find something interesting in at least some of them.
At last, I have no ambition of monetize this. If I gather a strong enough audience, well, perhaps. For the moment, I just hope you enjoy what I have written as much as I enjoy writing it.
Best,
Tiago
